They went after other gods, from among the gods of the peoples who were around them, and bowed down to them. And they provoked the Lord to anger.

    Who Is the Greatest?

    18 At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them and said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

    “Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me, butwhoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin,[a] it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.

    24 For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. 25 For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself? 26 For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of Man be ashamed when he comes in his glory and the glory of the Father and of the holy angels.

    Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!
        Serve the Lord with gladness!
        Come into his presence with singing!

    Know that the Lord, he is God!
        It is he who made us, and we are his;[a]
        we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

    Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
        and his courts with praise!
        Give thanks to him; bless his name!

    For the Lord is good;
        his steadfast love endures forever,
        and his faithfulness to all generations.

    13 Therefore let us not pass judgment on one another any longer, but rather decide never to put a stumbling block or hindrance in the way of a brother. 14 I know and am persuaded in the Lord Jesus that nothing is unclean in itself, but it is unclean for anyone who thinks it unclean. 15 For if your brother is grieved by what you eat, you are no longer walking in love. By what you eat, do not destroy the one for whom Christ died. 16 So do not let what you regard as good be spoken of as evil. 17 For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking but of righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. 18 Whoever thus serves Christ isacceptable to God and approved by men. 19 So then let us pursue what makes for peace and for mutual upbuilding.
